locked letters: writing on the street with a chain and a lock

I came to Surat for the first time to appear in an interview. This is was for the post of assistant professor at the Centre for the Social Studies in late 2006. In Delhi, it was winter season. In Surat, there was no cold and I enjoyed a lot. I had lot of time at my disposal that I used to walk in the city. During one of those walks I saw these letters written densly on the walls, on the street divider and spread almost everywhere.

After a long gap, today morning I captured some of the images and one is posted here. This is on the road that connects Bhatar chaar-rashta to Majura Gate, Surat.
